Nestled into a densely populated neighborhood in Cambridge, elegant and thoughtful solutions were introduced to create a residential oasis. The design plan thoughtfully integrated several amenities that instantly became the heart of their outdoor living space. Throughout the design and construction process of the complete landscape renovation, we were able to create a charming outdoor space that is kid-friendly, peaceful and functional. The clients wanted the gardens to be a place for the children to discover, explore and grow their own food. In addition, the request for an outdoor kitchen and natural stone patio was a must as they wanted most meals to be eaten outside. Last on the wish list was to convert the existing deck into a raised vegetable garden.
Upon arrival to the property, large natural stepping stones lead guests to the back garden and patio. Native perennials and shrubs flank the path adding color and multi-seasonal interest. Retaining walls composed of Saratoga Cottage Fieldstone create raised beds along the property line and form the skeleton for the outdoor cook station. To complete the cook station, a custom cut countertop composed of honed bluestone was installed. The patio was designed around a beautiful, old historic Beech tree that adds scale to the property and casts the perfect amount of shade.
The raised vegetable garden was constructed with IPE and designed to be accessible by children, with multiple levels and paths.
